A joyful selfie taken during a scenic hike would become the final photo a couple ever shared—an image that continues to move people years later.

Rotzo in northern Italy, 30-year-old Andrea Mazzetto and his girlfriend Sara Bragante were exploring the stunning Altar Knotto rock formation, known for its sweeping views and steep cliffs.

Like many couples on an adventure, they paused to capture the moment. In the photo, they smile warmly, unaware of what would happen next.

Shortly after, Andrea accidentally dropped his phone near the edge. When he tried to retrieve it, he lost his footing and fell roughly 650 feet down the mountainside.

Emergency crews responded quickly, even deploying a helicopter to reach the remote area. Despite their efforts, Andrea was pronounced dead at the scene.

In the days before the accident, Andrea had been sharing glimpses of their hike on social media. What started as a normal outing turned into a devastating loss.

Sara later posted their final selfie, calling it their “cursed last photo.” In a tribute, she wrote a simple, emotional message: “You will always be with me, my little bear.”
